Generate or regenerate one or more proxy formats of an asset
This call creates or updates one or more asset proxies . These proxies, or alternate formats of an asset, are typically created during the asset ingest process, but you might need to generate a unique type of proxy for a particular asset, or you might want to regenerate proxies after updating the specifications of a format.
For example, suppose you have a high-resolution format for images used in print materials. This format is rarely needed, so you don’t generate it at upload. However, the creative ops team has selected images for this year’s annual report, so you need to generate proxies of these assets that the team can download and send to the printer.
Or, suppose your organization has recently updated its watermark. You’ve updated the format settings so the watermarked proxies for all newly uploaded assets will be correct, but you also want to regenerate proxies for some assets that users are requesting right now.

Insight: Asset proxies
When you upload a file to the Orange Logic platform, it is copied to create proxies, which are alternate, often lower-resolution versions. Proxies are organized into small, medium, and large categories. Your organization can determine each proxy’s specifications. For example, an image’s small proxy could be 500 pixels by 500 pixels in size, and the large proxy could be 1,000 pixels by 1,000 pixels.
You can view your organization’s proxies in Administration > Archives > Asset Formats.
Image formats
You can generate or regenerate the proxies you need with the Regenerate proxies call. When you run this call, you can:
Generate proxies for one or more specific assets or for all assets of a particular subtype.
Specify which proxy formats to generate.
Limit the call, either to regenerate a format only when it already exists or to generate a format only when it doesn’t already exist.
Set a priority for the proxy generation task. Proxy generation always runs in the background, and the priority level determines where in the application queue the regeneration task is scheduled. Orange Logic administrators can check the status of a proxy generation task in the Orange Logic interface by going to Administration > Maintenance > Scheduled Tasks > Show Processing Transactions and searching for the Regenerate Proxies Formats transaction type.
❗
Warning: Generating a large number of proxies
The generate or regenerate proxies call creates a scheduled background task, which can be run against a secondary server. Depending on the infrastructure of your environment, your network bandwidth, and the size and number of assets you’re working with, this process could take a very long time.
Submit a support request if you’d like to consult with the Orange Logic support team before you generate or regenerate a large number of proxies. Depending on your situation, we might suggest running the Regenerate proxies call against your backup site instead of your primary site.
You might incur storage costs when regenerating the proxies of a large number of assets. Orange Logic must download the original file to generate the proxy, and then send the proxy back to the storage device. This process could result in significant fees, depending on the transfer pricing agreement for the server the process is running on.
Security Function
You must have the Can recompute asset proxy filesSecurity Function to generate or regenerate proxies.
